Abstract:
Although the number of devices connected to the Internet or some kind of
intranet has grown tremendously over the last few years, there is still
no widely accepted and uniform concept for designing applications that are
able to meet the diverse requirements of such heterogeneous systems. The
architecture that is presented in this paper overcomes these problems by
creating a vision of a Virtual Private Computer that combines participating
machines to a large, omnipresent computer. The integral part of this
architecture is a programming model that supports the development of
network aware applications composed of components, which are automatically
distributed over the virtual computer based on information about properties
of the environment.
